Hi, I'm Janaki,
Ancient memories of the science of yoga stirred in my heart when I was about 20 years old, since then I have been the eager student and devoted meditator I remain today. I was baptized into Christianity at birth, and my family supported me in exploring diverse spiritual traditions. My Guru, from a Ramanand tradition, found me soon after I became established in daily meditation practice. The martial art of aikido continues to develop within me from 15 years of active training with paramount Aikido senseis. For these authentic teachers, friends, students, and for my experiences singing with Salt and Pepper Gospel Choir for many years, I am grateful beyond words. With bowed head and hands, it is my honor to share from my heart the fruit of their endless love, wisdom, and guidance.
Since March of 2020, when the Before Times began to fade into the Present Times, I continue to write and record talks in nature about remaining anchored in stillness. These essays draw upon guidance from the ancient science of yoga and adjunct traditions, and from life itself. I trust these writings provide sustenance and tools for our collective spiritual evolution.
May we, as stewards of one another, the planet, and all living beings on it, collectively go beyond surviving to thriving. We have the potential to blossom and bring forth the fruit of our practices during this most challenging of times. The teachings of yoga, spiritual traditions from around the world, enlightened ones, Universal Consciousness, grace, our own collective diligent practice, love, and surrender now combine to establish global healing and world peace.
I post these writings to Facebook and Instagram weekly. This site provides continuous accessibility. May our daily meditation, sitting in the stillness, reveal our true nature—unity consciousness, bringing peace to ourselves, our planet, and all her inhabitants.
Present Moment Awareness – Writings of Our Time

"I took Janaki’s Foundations of Meditation Course almost 30 years ago. She makes abstract concepts clear and easy to understand through what seems like a relaxed conversation between a group of friends. Her knowledge is profound. My experience with the yoga center and Janaki has followed me through the years in my own meditation and my curiosity of our deepest nature."
"I was introduced to Janaki in my mid twenties at the Woodbury Yoga Center during a Sunday evening meditation program that she taught. I learned meditation from her and I've been practicing ever since...three decades plus later. She has a vast knowledge of Yoga and a diligent personal practice that permeates her being. She also has a great sense of humor!"

Quotes from Janaki
“Inspiration arises not from the mind, but from the absence of thought.”
When we are simply present in calmness and contentment with the present moment—without expectation, judgement, the need to control, change or solve—from that stillness comes guidance. Resolution alights when worry and doubt subside. Letting go is arriving.
